The UnGala is also a celebration!
Join us as we celebrate the cultural vitality of our city through the following performances & activity:
Iconic street photographer Louis Mendes will photograph attendees with his signature jumbo speed camera (think old-fashioned polaroid) in our retro photo booth. The dapper Harlem native, who has been taking photos for over 50 years, has won awards internationally and his photos grace the walls of galleries world-wide. He has photographed many celebrities, including Spike Lee, Denzel Washington, Tito Puente, Gordon Parks and Hillary Clinton. Mendes has been featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, NY Post and more.
Get ready to get down to the sounds of Brooklyn born DJ Tara, who will spin a collage of sounds that capture the vibe of modern New York life. More than just playing a mix of records, Tara dialogues with the crowd by sharing the love she has for music and the feelings it projects onto the listeners.
Artist, MoMA consultant, and long time Cool Culture collaborator Kerry Downey will get us in touch with our inner artist! Much like the collective works of art created by Cool Culture families, this community enterprise is an opportunity to reconnect with our creative selves, while connecting with other art lovers in the room.
